The Passerine Project was created to foster empathy and build bridges of cultural understanding using the universal mediums of music, poetry, and collaboration. Through songwriting and dialogue, students are left with a unique understanding of the beauty and challenges of Afghanistan's history and culture, all the while learning songcrafting skills. The voices of the Afghan women writers are further amplified as the western world is made aware of their talent and work. We feel respectful dialogue and joyful collaboration is the way forward. Our aim is to provide an environment and context in which we can discover our soulful similarities and marvel at our cultural differences... and all be moved by great songs in the process.
